How To Celebrate The 4th of July Virtually

Firing up the grill and lighting off fireworks is a pretty typical 4th of July celebration, but this year we’re showing you how to celebrate the 4th of July virtually. Although this year may look a little different because according to the National Retail Federation, just 24% of surveyed Americans say they plan to celebrate the Fourth of July by attending a community celebration. From cancelled firework celebrations to postponed cookouts, people are left wondering how exactly to celebrate the 4th. Don’t worry! Here’s how to celebrate the 4th of July virtually.

1.) Watch Fireworks Virtually

A ton of firework shows are cancelled, but some cities are taking the magic online. How? By live streaming or recording the shows for people to watch from the comfort of their own home. For example, News6 will show a pre-recorded version of Orlando’s Fireworks at the Fountain. Palm Bayis taking a different approach by doing a drive-in screening of National Treasure. If you decide to do your own backyard firework show make sure you follow these safety tips.

2.) Virtual Picnic

This can be a fun & easy activity for the kiddos. Pick a craft (we pinned some great ones on Pinterest here) and grab the supplies. Once you’re all set up, broadcast the project on Facebook or Instagram live for friends & family to follow along.

Sparklers are a tradition for many on the 4th so make it extra special this year. Film yourself writing a loved ones name with a sparkler then share the video with them.

6.) Host A Virtual Game Day

Pick a game like corn hole or water balloon toss and pick other family & friends to play along with. You can set up a Zoom session and watch as each team scores.

Another fun activity you can do, virtually or in-person, is baking a patriotic dessert. Film the process and share online. We gathered a few fun ones on our Pinterest page. Check them out here.
